Celebrating International Women’s Day 2023

To mark International Women’s Day 2023 colleagues from across Abellio’s businesses gathered for a lunchtime discussion focussed on the theme embracing equity.

More than eighty colleagues joined the session either in person or online, which was chaired by Dave Kaye, the executive sponsor for our Diversity & Inclusion Forum. The panel included Jo MacPhail (HR Director, West Midlands Trains), Val Mitchell, Managing Director, Solvd), Jane Fisher (Rail Contract Bid Director, Abellio) and Lorna Murphy (Operations Director, Abellio London Bus).

Colleagues at Greater Anglia embraced the day by urging women to consider a career working for the railway, with Katy Bucknall, Greater Anglia’s HR Director saying:

“We want women to know that the railway is a great place to work and offers several benefits. We have several initiatives underway to help women see the railway as a career choice, including internal events for our current colleagues to help them progress their careers and outreach work in local schools, so we can inspire future generation to choose a career on the railway.”

At Abellio London Bus colleagues at our six depots also joined the celebrations, with Lorna Murphy, Operations Director, saying:

“By supporting and developing women at all levels we build a better business and provide a better service for our customers. We are delighted to celebrate the contribution of our dedicated and diverse teams on International Women’s Day”.
